Inland Empire TOP 5 Savers and Wasters
This is the 2nd part of Indian Hill Media’s report on Water Savers and Wasters. For Part 1 read “Drought Shaming” on this site.
Claremont City Hall - The lawn is gone.
Inland Empire’s TOP 4 Water Saver Cities
1. Inland Empire edition of Golden Bucket Award Winner. Golden State Water/Claremont, CA. Claremont not only comes in first in the Inland Empire, They’re first in Southern California and sixth statewide in results according to a recent SWRCB report. Claremont surpassed their mandated water usage reduction of 32% by 13.3 for a 45.3% total reduction in water usage. This places them 6th in the state in total reduction and a Top Ten place in our statewide TOP TEN WATER SAVERS. And they’re still tearing out lawns. Congrats Claremont! Can I water my lawn now?
2. East Valley Water District - Highland, CA. Highland surpassed their 28% reduction mandate by 8.2% for a total reduction of 36%. You wouldn’t think there’d be any water left out there to save after Nestle/Arrowhead bottled their daily 68,000 gallons of water. I’ll bet the water bill for the Highland residents is a lot more than the 600$ a year Nestle pays for all that water.
3. Pomona, CA – Pomona only needed to hit 20% but they kept going and hit at total water use reduction of 27%. Good work Pomona!
4. San Dimas, CA – Needed 28% but stretched it to a 35% total reduction.
The rest of the Inland Cities hit their marks give or take 1% and here they are:
Fontana 29% reduction – mandate 28%
San Bernardino 29%... ...................READ FULL ARTICLE

Drought Shaming – In California, Who’s Saving and Who’s Wasting Our Water.
TOP 10 Water Savers and Wasters in CaliforniaThe State of Water Conservation in California
A widely circulated State Water Resource Control Board report released August 27th sets forth a positive story of California’s 31% reduction in water usage for the months of June and July over the 2014 summer months. That’s good news. Californians used 31% less water in July 2015 than July 2014. But what about the bigger picture. What about our individual cities compliance with their mandate reduction numbers. Are we riding the backs of the overachievers or are we really, wholly and individually hitting our numbers. The answer: 28% of the 403 reporting cities are out of compliance – by as much as 27%
The Best and the Worst
As pointed out in many of the articles that referenced this SWRCB report, the City of Livingston appears to be the biggest water waster. Livingston isn’t the worst by our account but Livingston does illuminate the issue. They missed their mandate by almost 27%. But what this really means is that Livingston only reduced water consumption by 5%. They were required to hit 32%. Livingston has a lot of company with California cities that slide below the mandate. 114 cities missed the state mandate. 114 underachievers. For example, the cities of Hanford, Pinon Hills, and... ...................READ FULL ARTICLE
